L'époque : le XIIIe siècle. Le lieu : Yeke Mongol Ulus, le plus grand empire que le monde ait jamais connu. La femme : Fatima, originaire de Perse, où la médecine et les sciences ont atteint un niveau de perfection inégalé. Son désir de mettre son savoir à profit l'a conduite au palais des Mongols, où elle se trouve sous la protection de Töregene, la sixième épouse d'Ögedei, le deuxième Grand Khan.
