First impression - it's a bit like an anime Rocky. The "small time" fighter trying to make it big vibe is obvious. The plot is very straightforward, with no real surprises. The animation style is pretty good. The "plot twists" were fairly generic and obvious. I guess I am curious to see what they do with this, but it just seems fairly run-of-the-mill to me.

I don't care much for boxing as a rule, but this is a very good beginning to a character-centered sports series. The pilot ended just as the bout was about to start, which was frustrating since I really wanted to see how long it was going to last and most importantly, who was going to win.

Much worth while remake of a classic. Imagery is what Akira would have been if it was a series.
