Snowball Earth
"Yukio... I'm going to make a friend." A shy boy named Tetsuo. The only thing he had was a giant robot named Yukio. They became "saviors" in the fight against the galactic monsters coming from outer space. After the final battle, Tetsuo returns to Earth for the first time in ten years and witnesses an astonishing world. It's a frozen Earth (named Snowball Earth), where the entire land is covered in snow and ice, being turned into a deadly world! What happened to the human race? And will Tetsuo be able to fulfill the promise he made to Yukio?

On the one hand, its the typical "chosen one" story. On the other hand, the chosen one failed - so now what?
Our lead is something of a Shinji clone, with the main character being a boy that pilots a mech but is socially awkward.
I thought it was mid - nothing great, nothing terrible.
I don't really feel like giving this one a chance - unless I get REALLY sick of the isekai

"He'd have to be a genius to drive it" told me something about the story -- just not where the series is headed after the first episode. Does the lonely boy meet a lonely kaiju? I guess I'd have to keep watching to find out.

Nice production values. Typical shy kid archetype, but in a post-apocalyptic Earth, after having saved it fighting off the extraterrestrial menace.

Great run up to the actual story. Parody of kaiju series up to then end of episode one. Too bad with have no clue how things came to be but what a send up.
